Technical Manager

POSITION PURPOSE 

Reporting to the Chief Carbon Officer, the Technical Manager will assist with technical carbon assessment, design and development of Imperative’s carbon projects including various NBS project types, and other high-impact project types in the voluntary carbon market.   

The successful candidate will work with global colleagues to deliver world-class emerging market carbon projects. Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Assist in the assessment of potential projects, the development of carbon project feasibility studies, and the preparation of carbon project related documentation, including PDDs and monitoring reports 
  • Assist with MRV activities under different carbon standards and methodologies  
  • Interpret and apply internationally recognized carbon standards’ procedures and methodologies to clients and stakeholders 
  • Collect and manage data from literature reviews and field visits, including forest inventories for carbon accounting across all NBS project types  
  • Develop models (using excel, python, others) for baseline and project scenario carbon emission reductions  
  • Visit to projects in Africa, LATAM and Asia to oversee and verify data to support the development of our projects 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES 

  • Familiarity with carbon project methodologies and standards is critical.  
  • Willingness to travel periodically to project sites.    
  • Demonstrably high level of integrity and passion for developing projects that have significant co-benefits for communities, biodiversity and the environment.  
  • A strong desire to innovate and drive improvement. 
  • Strong grasp of technical project documentation 
  • Ability to solve complex project-related problems independently 

QUALIFICATIONS 

The position requires a relevant degree in environmental/biological sciences at, ideally, a Master’s level from an internationally renowned university.  

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE  

  • The position requires 7 years’ experience or more in relevant roles, in international organizations.

Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement. Additional language skills relevant to target emerging markets would be an added advantage.
